SSNs should never be entered on a HEAT ticket

The CRC has recently received HEAT tickets that mistakenly contain a Social Security Number (SSN) in the Call Description. There is a security concern with this. Please understand that SSNs should never be entered in the HEAT system for security and privacy purposes. As a reminder, email messages are sent when HEAT tickets are opened and closed and it is important that SSNs and other private information are never transmitted via email.

For more information, please refer to Senate Bill 25 chaptered October 12, 2003: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/03-04/bill/sen/sb_0001-0050/sb_25_bill_20031012_chaptered.html.

For your convenience, here is the excerpt:
“SEC. 5. Section 1798.85 of the Civil Code is amended to read:
1798.85. (a) Except as provided in subdivisions (b), (h), and
(i), a person or entity may not do any of the following:
(1) Publicly post or publicly display in any manner an individual'
s social security number. "Publicly post" or "publicly display"
means to intentionally communicate or otherwise make available to the general public.”
