From Dr. Mark S. Zecca, Executive Director, Education Business Systems (EBS):

I wanted to update you on some major activities at EBS that may affect you very soon. This weekend, the final stages of the Infrastructure refurbishment will take place. This consists of the expansion of our application servers from two to five. It also consists of changing out the server operating environment from an older product to the newest version of VMWare. Additionally, the two Database servers will have new operating system software with a change out from Exalogic to the newer Exadata X.5. We have already upgraded the web servers from two to six and increase all the server’s memory. This is in an attempt to increase PeopleSoft reliability and response time (and hopefully eliminate the spinning wheel of death)! We will be working all weekend with our Managed Services provider through the implementation. We are hoping that by Sunday morning all systems will be up and running.

Also, many of you have heard that we are moving from the HEAT trouble ticketing system to the ServiceNow SDCOE Service Portal. This provides an updated capability for our help desks and response centers to serve you and an expanded set of functionality for users to submit issues and enhancements to EBS. We are working with several pilot districts first to test the configuration and anticipate a full range of introductions to the system and training throughout the county in the next month and a half.

Also, in the next week and a half we will be sending out a video on Data for Districts (D4D). This is a short video/audio clip showing how D4D can be used along with a request from EBS on District’s interest in such a tool. This tool allows the easy extraction of data from the PeopleSoft environment to simple spreadsheet or file protocols with a short series of points and clicks.

We will continue to keep you informed of how the infrastructure upgrade goes and updates on some of the major projects being pursued. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 858-569-3010 or mark.zecca@sdcoe.net.

Best Regards,
Mark Zecca
